Plastic Laminate tops can easily be cared for with soap and water and at times non-abrasive cleaners. Spills on laminate tops need to cleaned up as soon as possible. If allowed to sit for a while spills (things like red wine) can stain your laminate counter. Use a soap dish for your anti-bacterial soaps as well. The bleach in some anti-bacterial soaps have been known to bleach out the counter where they sit. Make sure to always use a trivet to cut on as well as placing hot pots and pans.
Solid Surface tops are available in several finishes. The following maintenance tips are for matte finish countertops only. If you have a semi-gloss, high gloss or your tops have been installed for over 2 years, just give us a call and we will give you customized maintenance tips.
Solid surface tops and sinks are easily cared for with soap and water and at times non-abrasive cleaners. Solid surface tops are non-porous so they will not stain but spills allowed to sit on a countertop can become difficult to remove. Hard to remove spills may require a small amount of a non-abrasive cleaner. Always use a trivet for all cutting and placing hot items on. Cutting directly on any countertop will eventually scratch it and hot items will ruin the finish.
Granite will need to be sealed at least twice a year. There is no simple way of removing stains or scratches, and breaks cannot be repaired. Be careful with foods that contain natural acid as they can etch the surface. Always coasters under glasses and use trivets under, ceramics, silver, or china, to prevent scratching. As always use a trivet to cut on or to place hot items.
Engineered Stone can be only be wiped down with soap and water. You can not use any cleaners that have any abrasive properties to them as they will dull the finish. As with solid surface it is non-porous so it will not stain but again if a spill is aloud to sit it can become very stubborn to remove. As always you need a trivet for all cutting and placing hot items on. Cutting directly on any countertop will eventually scratch it and hot items will ruin the finish.
ALWAYS USE A TRIVET TO CUT ON AND PLACING HOT ITEMS!
Cutting directly on any countertop will eventually scratch your tops and hot items will ruin the finish. So no matter what the surface you chose always use a cutting board.
